Details: ALUM: (Potassium aluminum sulfate): Crystalline white acid mordant c.7800 BC in the Mid-East for dyeing and pigments, particularly for watercolors and making clothlets. Also used by ancient Persians as a fabric pre-treatment so marbling pigments more easily transfer onto fiber. For pigments, alum is a substrate for precipitating lake pigments and making clothlets.
