FUSTIC (Palo de Amarillo), 2oz: Heartwood from one of several trees and shrubs popularly called by this name. The dye chemical is identical to Osage orange. Colors become darker as the dyepot simmers.


One type of fustic was used by English dyers c. AD 1560 or earlier, and also as a pigment for medieval illuminations. See the PIGMENT department for more information.

Results:
Alum mordant: nice fast yellow becomes darker golden yellow as the dyepot simmers
Copper mordant: dull yellow, turns deep pumpkin orange with pinch of iron
Iron mordant: Dark olive green
Tin mordant: bright yellow with pinch of tartaric acid
